First Lutheran Church's Standing Committees


Worship & Music


The Worship & Music Committee coordinates all aspect of the congregation's worship life as Word & Sacrament.  The committee plans for seasonal worship, i.e. Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, etc.  Plans are also made to provide special mid-week services and opportunities to worship with the Lutheran Cluster, full communion partners and with other denominations as well.  This group oversees the following: Altar Guild, Ushers, Acolytes, Assisting Ministers.  The Music Director is an ex-officio member of the Worship & Music Committee.  Current chair person is Colleen Witmer.


Christian Education


The Christian Education ensures this congregation provides opportunities to learn about the Good News of Jesus Christ.  This committee coordinates the following programs and organizations:  Sunday School, Vacation Church School, Confirmation Camp, First Communion, Extreme Losers and Bible Studies.  Randy Britton is the chair person.






 The Witness Committee lifts up the congregation's responsibility to share the Gospel within and beyond
the parish.  The committee promotes hospitality at all church events.  Members are encouraged to invite others to come and learn about the love of God through Jesus Christ.  This committee is responsible for raising community awareness regarding the FLC's ministry through radio and newspaper ads.  Witness is experienced through all functions of the Church. 




The function of service is to provide for those in need.  The Social Ministry actively heeds the call of Christ to love and serve one another.  This committee is responsible for lifting up awareness of social issues such as World Hunger, Poverty, the ELCA's Malaria Initiative, etc.  Every two years, the congregation embarks on a mission trip to bring Christ's love to those in need beyond our community.  Trips have been made to Nashville, TN, Georgia, Pittsburgh, the Heifer Project Farm in MA and Washington D.C.

This committee also coordinates the "Friends Loving Our Community" program providing support and care to the local community through service projects and fundraising efforts.





 Those committees who fall under the Support function of the Church are the following:


Stewardship:   This committee educates the congregation in our understanding of stewardship as a way of life.  Stewardship is managing with care and respect what God has given us.  The Stewardship Committee is responsible for encouraging and inspiring members to give to God through time, talent and treasure.  Craig Whitaker is the chair person.


Finance:  This committee coordinates the budget process,oversees the church's investments and disbursement of the "Special Gifts" fund.  John Kersey is the chair person.


Property:  The Property Committee maintains and cares for the church building and the grounds.  Kevin Downey is the chair person.
